March OBM Scholar The Haggadah in History & The Haggadah as History Dr. Yitz Landes Assistant Professor of Rabbinic Literatures and Cultures at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America
Tuesday, March 25th Light Dinner sponsored by Beth El Sisterhood at 7:30pm Followed by in-person and livestreamed lecture at 8:00pm
Where does the text of the Haggadah come from? And how has it changed over time? In this class, we will take a panoramic look at the history of the Haggadah, starting with its development during the times of the early rabbis and seeing how it eventually became one of the most ubiquitous Jewish books. In particular, we will focus on the various themes and goals of the Haggadah, and how shifting attitudes towards the seder ritual reflect wider changes in Judaism and notions of Jewish history. The Open Beit Midrash Scholar Series is funded by The Yvette and Herman Gordon Century Fund for Adult Teaching and Learning.
